BONUS TRAINING: YOUR MOST COMMON STRUGGLES & HOW TO FIX THEM

THE DOORS TO THE SUCCESSFUL WILDLIFE PROFESSIONAL ARE NOW OPEN!

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ANY OF THE PROBLEMS LISTED ABOVE THEN YOU ARE LIKELY MAKING ONE OR MORE OF THESE MISTAKES

  • You’re applying to as many jobs as you can and haven’t realized that more of the same isn’t working
  •  You try to get as much experience as possible without focusing in on a specific niche or direction (“a Jack of all trades is master of none”)
  • You only have a vague idea of what kind of permanent job you ultimately want, but are open to a lot of possibilities
  • You can’t describe what your ultimate dream job would look like on a daily basis – you’ll know what you like when you see it
  • You’re investing in extra courses, certifications, or volunteering abroad experiences to make yourself more attractive to employers only to realize you’re still not getting interviews
  • You’re just focused on where you’re at – like finishing school or your thesis, and you don’t look at the job boards until you are ready to apply for something
  • You’re taking advice from professors who’ve been in their jobs (and off the job market) for decades, graduate students who’ve NEVER had a permanent job in wildlife, or random people in Facebook Wildlife groups
  • Your resume looks like one for regular jobs and not wildlife jobs – meaning it isn’t detailed enough and summarizes too much (e.g. “data analysis”)
  • You’re sending out job applications that highlight what the job can do for you in your career and not what you can do for the employer/organization
  • Your job applications emphasize the courses you took in college, your GPA, and skills you learned from classes and labs
  • You’re not taking the time to understand why you’re not getting interviews, what the job posting wants, and how your experience matches it
  • You’re focusing on quantity (how many jobs you apply to) and not on quality when it comes to job applications and writing about your own experiences
  • You haven’t actually talked to anyone one-on-one who has a permanent job that you ultimately want
  • You rely on other people to expand your network by introducing you to people and don’t make things happen on your own
